Bob G Jensen

Manti, UT

Bob G. Jensen, age 86, passed away in Centerfield, Utah on February 6, 2016. Bob was born on September 12, 1929, the eldest of two children of Gail G. and Grace Allen Jensen. Married Joyce Crandall in Provo, Utah, September 1, 1950 while they were both attending BYU. Bob and Joyce were sealed in the Manti Temple in 2005 after Joyce passed away on December 26, 2003.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management after which they returned to Manti to join his father at Jensen’s Department Store. Gail, Grace, Bob and Joyce worked together for many years running the business that they loved. Later on, his youngest son, John, joined Bob at Jensen’s, Inc. and continues to operate the store today, some 92 years after its beginning.

Bob loved Manti and Sanpete County. He was instrumental in starting Little League Baseball and coached a team for many years. He belonged to the Lion’s Club and participated in other civic organizations and events. His shining star was helping establish Palisade Golf Course. Many hours of planning, negotiating and physical labor were spent in the early 1970’s to get the course open. Bob never played at Palisade when he didn’t stop to pull a weed, dig around a tree or gather trash. Palisade Golf Course remained his personal project for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed the time he spent coaching the high school golf team and how well the guys on the team were playing and the successes they had in their lives. In his last days, he loved to visit the course to see the beauty and all the people that were enjoying the place that meant so much to him.

Bob and Joyce enjoyed their golf, but even more, they enjoyed their golf together. Most vacations revolved around where they could go have some fun and play a little golf. Outings on the golf course were a regular part of family gatherings. He also loved to boat, hunt and ski with family and friends.

Bob loved each member of his family. He was proud of his three sons, welcomed their wives to the family as his daughters and doted on his grandchildren. He attended their activities and celebrated their accomplishments. Bob and Joyce also enjoyed a loyal group of friends, both from Provo and Manti connections.

Bob was honored to be a holder of the Melchizedek Priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was grateful for the blessings of the temple and his sealing to Joyce. He worked hard to fulfill his callings in the church. After living a long and fulfilled life, Bob suffered a debilitating stroke four years ago. He has been cared for in his home and the Community Living Center in Centerfield since then. He maintained a cheerful attitude despite these challenges and loved the visits from family and friends.

Bob is survived by his three sons and their wives: Jeff and Cathy Jensen, Cottonwood Heights; Mike and Donna Jensen, West Jordan; and John and Kay Jensen, Manti. He is also survived by his brother, Gary and Shelba Jensen, Richfield; eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Grace Jensen; and his beloved wife, Joyce Crandall Jensen. He will be remembered as a businessman, a leader in the community, a friend and a great dad and grandfather.
