July 15, 1932 ~ February 12, 2018 (age 85)

Roger D Jensen

Aurora, Utah

Roger Darwin Jensen, 85, passed away February 12, 2018 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was born July 15, 1932 in Christianburg, Sanpete County, Utah to Wallace Darwin and Petra Lucile Petersen Jensen. He had four sisters: Coleen, Norma, Margaret and Vickie. Coleen and Vickie survive. His grandparents were Christian Andreas and Maren Nielson Petersen; and August and Mary Alice Christensen Jensen, who settled in the Gunnison area after emigrating from Denmark.

Roger’s early years were spent working on the farm, playing hide and seek and swimming in the canal with cousins and friends. Horses were a big part of his life even in his childhood in the form of the smaller Shetlands, to the big Percherons that pulled the farm wagons. Sugar Beets were a big thing back then, and the kids worked pulling the beets, cutting off the tops and throwing them into the big wagons pulled by the horses.

Roger attended Gunnison High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force when he was 18. He continued his career there for 21 years and through the years was stationed in Newfoundland, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona and Thailand.

He married Gayle Chavis, September 30, 1953 in Elko, Nevada. They were the parents of two sons. She passed away in 1983. He later married Carol Sagers Lemon in Monroe. They resided in Monroe and Salina, and for the past 30 years, made their home in Aurora.

After he retired from the Air Force, Roger worked for Monroe City, Southern Utah Fuel Co., Johnson Feed Lot and Producers Livestock Auction.

He always loved horses, and spent many years raising and showing Paint Horses. He loved going on trail rides and helping with cattle roundups every year. Roger and Carol served in the Cove Fort Mission and enjoyed it very much. Due to health concerns, they recently moved to Wyoming.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol of Afton, WY; sons, Milton (Valerie) Jensen, Monroe; Matthew (Trina) Jensen, Richfield; step-children: Gordon (Denise) Lemon, Terry (Marnie) Lemon, both of Grover, WY; Lisa Smith, Salt Lake; Amy (Bruce) Jeppesen, CA; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 in the Aurora 2nd LDS Ward Chapel.
