Jack F Shipp

May 12, 1935 — January 5, 2022

Jack F Shipp
Joseph, Utah

Jack F Shipp, aged 86, passed away January 5, 2022 in Centerfield, UT.  He was born May 12, 1935 in Joseph, Utah to Charles E. and Mabel French Shipp, the youngest of five children.  He loved hunting with his father and brothers.  The first day of the deer hunt was like Christmas morning for Jack, so exciting that he couldn’t sleep the night before.

Jack loved sports and played basketball and baseball at South Sevier High School.  He was the winning pitcher for the State Championship baseball team his senior year.  He graduated from SSHS in 1953 and went on to pitch at BYU where he continued winning many games and championships.  He got his first practice pitching by throwing green apples and rocks at cars on the highway.

Jack loved country life and spent almost his entire life in Joseph.  After graduating from BYU in 1959 he spent a year teaching history in Salt Lake City where he decided city life was not for him.  He returned to Joseph where he spent the rest of his life.  He taught American History for several years in Monroe and then Richfield.  He loved teaching but the farm life called to him.  In 1973 he quit teaching and pursued farming and ranching full time.  He has loved living his life in Sevier County.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Jack served a mission for his church in the Northwestern States from 1955 to 1957, and has fulfilled many other church callings throughout his life.

Jack married Lorraine Poulsen in the Manti Temple on August 20, 1959.  Together they have 4 wonderful daughters: Jacki (Dwight) Finch, Cindy (David) Cloward, Staci (John) York, Laura (Darren) Smith.  He will also be missed by 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Karol Gleave; and a close cousin, Royal (Carolyn) Shipp.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his siblings: Charles (Joyce) Joyce Shipp, Rodney Shipp, Darlene (Bud) DeBoer, and Stan Gleave.
