Aaron Lee Anderson, 67, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, in Richfield, Utah, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Known to many as “Coach Anderson,” Aaron dedicated his life to education, mentorship, and coaching. As a teacher and high school basketball coach, he influenced countless students and athletes throughout his career with his leadership, integrity, and compassion.
Aaron was born on May 1, 1959, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and raised in Yukon, Oklahoma. He faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tampa, Florida. He later attended Rick’s College in southeastern Idaho, where he met his eternal companion, Julie. They were married in April of 1982, in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, and built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Aaron earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and later obtained two master’s degrees in education and administration. He coached basketball in northern Arizona for 26 years, including 18 years as a head coach at Chinle, Monument Valley (Kayenta), St. Johns, and Page High Schools. His teams won multiple regional titles, and Monument Valley captured Arizona State Class 3A championships in 1993 and 1996. The 1993 championship marked a historic milestone as the first Arizona boys basketball state title won by a high school located on the Navajo Nation. That achievement helped pave the way for future success by other reservation basketball programs throughout the region. Aaron was inducted into the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to high school athletics.
Following retirement, Aaron and Julie moved to Centerfield, Utah, in 2021. Aaron will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, his students, and the many athletes whose lives he shaped through teaching and coaching.
Aaron is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Julie Anderson, and their children, Kristi Jensen (Stan), James Anderson (Stephanie), Ariel Solomon (David), and Jessica Robison (Spencer); 10 grandchildren; and his brother, David Anderson (Naydean).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Anderson, and his stepfather, Donald Anderson.
