Arlene Smith

December 9, 1930 — December 14, 2021

Arlene Smith
Manti, Utah

Arlene Mickelson Smith, 91, of Manti, passed away in Centerfield, Utah on December 14, 2021. Arlene was born on December 9, 1930 in Manti to Rulon S. and Jesse C. Mickelson. After completing her formal education in Manti, Snow College and the University of Utah, she taught school in Richfield, Salt Lake City, El Cajon, CA, and Mannheim, Germany.  Arlene traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Mediterranean areas during those years.

Arlene met her husband, Lloyd V. Smith in El Cajon, CA while they were both employed by the Cajon Valley School District. They were married June 18, 1960 in Richfield, Utah and the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on December 28, 1962. They began their life together in El Cajon where Lloyd continued working as a psychologist for the school district. Within a few short years they owned and operated the Clinic for Reading and Day School (s) in different areas throughout San Diego County.

After moving back to Manti, Arlene and Lloyd, along with Scott Williams formed a partnership to build houses in Sanpete and Sevier counties. Arlene worked in the hardware store and helped customers with their interior design selections for their new homes.

Arlene and Lloyd continued tutoring students throughout their lives together. They loved and supported each other in their work, travels and church callings. They joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010.

Arlene is survived by her two beloved daughters: Vickie Ann (Jack) Robins, Tamara "Tammy" Arlene (Dane) Tom; she adored her grandchildren: Starlette (Kevin) Tobler, Weston (Nicole) Keisel, Kolten (Taya) Robins, Chase (Fantasia) Thompson, Matthew Robins, Sierra (Colten) Sant; 8 great-grandchildren: Gaige, Grace, Gabryanne & Gannon Tobler, Oskar and Ozzie Keisel, L.B. Thompson and Remy Sant, with Kolten and Taya expecting number 9 in May; great-great-grandson, Dawson Melton; two brothers: Merrill (Charlene) Mickelson, Elliot (Zola) Mickelson; many nieces and nephews whom Arlene dearly loved. Arlene was greeted with open arms by her husband; parents; brother, Garth and sister-in-law Lola Mickelson; niece, Mitzi Snow.

Vickie and Tammy would like to thank the loving staff at Mission at Community Rehab in Centerfield along with the many therapists and doctors who helped her post hip surgery. We are forever grateful for their care during the past two trying years of COVID-19 when we could not be present.
