In Loving Memory of Becky Lou Dilworth Williams
Becky Lou Dilworth Williams, 79, was born August 7, 1947, to Quentin “Lee” and Peggy Dilworth. The oldest of two girls, she graduated from high school in Rochester, New York, before attending Brigham Young University, where she proudly earned her teaching degree. She later earned a master’s degree from Southern Utah University.
Education was Becky’s life. She loved learning and never stopped. Even after retiring from public education, she couldn’t stay away from the classroom. She continued teaching online and volunteering at the local elementary school, where she read with children and helped them with math. Her love for students and learning never wavered.
Becky’s feet never stayed in one place for long. From Alaska to Utah, she eventually found the love of her life, William “Bill” Williams. They married on June 19, 1975, and went on to raise six children—four boys and two girls, all convinced they were their mother’s favorite.
Life with Becky was filled with faith, family, service, adventure, and laughter. Having a teacher for a mother meant enduring constant grammar corrections, so her children took great pleasure in intentionally using terrible grammar just to tick her off.
She loved visiting national parks with her best friend, Judith, and traveling with their families. With ten children, it may have been the cheapest vacation imaginable, but fun and adventure were always guaranteed. And if there was a musical, every song would be sung.
Of all the things Becky gave, her hugs were her specialty. They had a way of saying, “I love you. I’m here. Everything is going to be okay.” She made people feel valued, welcome, and loved. Becky leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, service, and unforgettable memories. Her family and friends will miss her laughter, singing, encouragement, hugs, and even her grammar corrections.
But they hold onto the hope she cherished: that through Jesus Christ, death is not the end and families can be together forever. We can imagine Becky on the other side of the veil, surrounded by loved ones, probably wondering why everyone is crying when they should be celebrating.
We will mourn because we love her, laugh because she gave us so many reasons to, and carry her example forward through our own acts of kindness and service.
Becky, we love you, we miss you, and we are forever grateful for the life you shared with us.
Until we meet again, and when that day comes, I have a feeling you’ll give us one of those unforgettable hugs and ask, “What took you so long?”
