Betty Lou Anderton Baker, 100, passed away at the home of her grandson Damon and his wife Marla Baker, in Elsinore, Utah, on January 12, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1925, in Elsinore, Utah, to Don Smith and Hazel Fern Levie Anderton. She married Calvin Coolidge Baker on September 23, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, while he was on furlough during World War II. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2000.
Betty took pride in her work, whether at her vocation or homemaking. She supported the Manned Space Program starting in the 1960’s, at North American Aviation in the Reprographics Department as well as at Rockwell International, where she retired in December 1990. Betty received awards for her work and ideas. One manager at Rockwell said, “She is an extremely dedicated, competent employee who has consistently shown a high level of performance over the years.” A highlight of her career that she recalled was when Queen Elizabeth II of England visited Rockwell on February 28, 1983.
She always felt it important to look her best and had a well-kept home. Ne’er a dish or a piece of laundry be left undone. Her expectations in her garden were top-notch.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Betty received her Endowment on January 28, 2012, at the St. George Temple. She loved her family and enjoyed decorating and celebrating holidays with her grandchildren, and raising and breeding parakeets and cockatiels.
She is survived by her sons: David Calvin Baker and Jerry Glenn Baker; 8 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 8 second-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Charles Baker; and her siblings: May, Tom, Art, Don, Shirley, Elaine, Robert, and Donna Rae.
