Betty Olcott
Standwood, WA

Betty Burgess Olcott passed away April 7, 2022 in Stanwood WA from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. She was 80 years old. She was born on September 25, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Owen and Inez Larue Nielsen Burgess. She was the youngest of three girls: Sally, Inez, and Betty.  She lived in Salt Lake City, Copperton, Gunnison, Myton and Orem, Utah before moving to the Pacific Northwest, with homes in Bellevue, Kirkland and Stanwood, Washington.

Attending Brigham Young University, Betty earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. She taught grade school for one year. She was a member of the BYU ballroom dance team.
Betty was doing her student teaching in a local elementary school when she was placed in charge of a dance for BYU students over the Christmas holidays. This is where she met Ronald Duane Olcott, who had just returned from his mission. Ron and Betty were married in the Manti Temple on  June 16, 1963.

A loving wife and mother, Betty dedicated her life to her family.   She loved going backpacking with her family, even hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim. She traveled to all but one of the continents, including the Holy Land and to the Antarctic.

Betty was a skilled seamstress. She sewed everything from tents and parkas to wedding dresses. She was also a prolific knitter, giving away many dishrags, and taught many this skill. She loved sharing her many talents and doing things for others.

An active in The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life,  Betty served in many different callings. She was always loved by the youth. She taught in early morning seminary, at girls camp and in the Young Women’s program. She served as Relief Society president. Ron and Betty served together in the nursery, in Scouting, and a two year service mission.  She touched the lives of many people. She was a great example to those around her.

She is survived by her husband Ronald D. Olcott; children: Dianna (Jim) Park, Jennifer (Edward) Glines, Dennis (Sheri), and Jay (Roxanne); grandchildren: James (Danica) Park, Katie (Adam) Germanis, Collin (Claire) Park, Derek (Morgan) Park, Jonathan (Larissa) Glines, Forrest Glines, Porter (Samantha Forde) Glines, Benjamin (Emily) Glines, Haley (Andrew) Harward, Brian (Emilee) Olcott, Jason (Megan) Olcott, and Justin Olcott; and by great-grandchildren: Sophia Park, Alice Park, Orrin Germanis, Wesson Germanis, Theo Park, Emilia Park, Nash Glines, Hadlee Olcott, and Harper Olcott.
