Bert Jay Parks

Bert Jay Parks, lovingly known as Jay, passed away on August 25, 2026, in Joseph, Utah, at the age of 64. He was born on February 19, 1962, in Panguitch.

Jay will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor and a smile that was always ready to brighten the day of those around him. He made people laugh, and his warmth and easy spirit left a lasting impression on the many people who knew and loved him. He was dearly loved by many, and his presence brought joy to family and friends alike.

He found happiness in the things he loved most: history, architecture, old cars, the mountains, music, and spending time with friends. He also had a great love for “Little Red,” which held a special place in his heart. Jay was a great uncle to the children in his family, and that role was one he filled with affection and joy. These interests reflected a life lived with appreciation for stories, beauty, companionship, and the simple pleasures that make memories endure. 

He married Kathy Butcher in Richfield, and though their marriage later ended in divorce, Kathy remains an important part of the story of his life.

Family meant a great deal to Jay, and he shared a special bond with those he loved. He is survived by Kathy Butcher (divorced); by his child, Brandi Johnson, and three grandchildren; and his siblings, Fred (Beth) Smith, Brenda Ames, Colleen (Richard) Forness, Debora Smith, and Troy (Sue) Parks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert G Parks and Lillian May Webb; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carolyn Smith; siblings, Glenna Ames, Connie Barlow, Kenneth Smith; and brother-in-law, Danny Ames

Jay’s life was marked by laughter, love, and the comfort of familiar passions. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be remembered with affection for the smiles he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
