Chauncey Robert Boyington, 80, of Manti, Utah, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in the same home where he was born.
Chauncey was born in Manti, Utah, on July 25, 1945, to Layfe T. Boyington and Wilma B. (Harmon) Boyington. He was the third of three sons. He graduated from Manti High School in 1963, where he was very active in school, participating in FFA, Letterman’s Club, Traveling Assembly, and Speech Meets. He was known for his athletic abilities, where he played basketball and baseball.
After high school, he went on to join the Utah National Guard. Chauncey completed basic training at Fort Ord, California. Upon returning home, he was called to serve a full-time mission in the North Central States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This Mission encompassed Minnesota, Manitoba, and other surrounding areas. After returning from his mission, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. Chauncey later returned to college at Utah State University, where he graduated with a degree in Education. He eventually attended and graduated from Oregon State University as well.
After leaving Manti, Utah, he moved to Salt Lake City, where he worked for K-Mart in the Jewelry Department. He transferred to the new Salem, Oregon, store as the manager of the Jewelry Department. This is where he met and fell in love with his wife, Cathy, who was the manager of the Millinery Department. They were married on December 5, 1970.
After their marriage, Chauncey became the manager of Zales Jewelry Company and was transferred to Salinas, California, to set up and open that new store. From Salinas, California, they then moved to Logan, Utah, where he managed a Zales Jewelry Store. In 1980, the family moved back to Salem, Oregon, where Chauncey once again managed a Zales Jewelry Store. He then moved on to car sales, where he became the Cadillac Sales Manager. He went to work for his good friend at his used car lot, where he was the Finance Manager.
After many years in Salem, Chauncey and Cathy decided it was time to return to his hometown, buy his childhood home, and renovate it. While living in Manti again, Chauncey worked for Jorgenson Chevrolet, where he was first in Sales and then ran the Rental Car Department. His final job was at Rasmussen’s Ace Hardware in Gunnison, Utah.
As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chauncey served in many callings in his ward, one of which was Elder’s Quorum President. He served in the Bishopric of the Young Single Adults Ward at Snow College and was a Temple Worker at the Manti LDS Temple. He loved to share his knowledge of the Gospel and was known by many to have an infectious smile and a quick wit.
Chauncey leaves behind his wife, Catherine Mae (Redinger) Boyington, of 54 years… (Just 12 days shy of their 55th Wedding Anniversary), his son, Jay Boyington (Shawn), daughter, Kimberly Freideman (Bill), granddaughter, Kinlee Carroll (Michael), grandson, Zacharia Boyington, grandson, Sawyer Freideman, granddaughter, Sydney Freideman, two great grandchildren, along with his brother Carl Boyington (Jan) and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were the light of his life!
