Cloyd Rudolph Colby, of Laguna Hills, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026. Cloyd was born on October 25, 1932, in Richfield, Utah, to Allie Mirth Casto and Clinton Eugene Colby. He was the second child born in a family of seven boys and one girl. He grew up spending many summers working for the family ranch, herding sheep, and later cattle, on the west mountains of Richfield. As a young man, Cloyd chose to serve his country and joined the Marine Corps in 1952.
Working in California after his military service, Cloyd met Theresa Mauro at the Cove Fort bus station, Utah, as they were both returning from visiting family in Utah. They married and had two sons, Layden and Zane. They later divorced. Cloyd moved to the Seattle area with his boys to work as a plumber/steamfitter at Boeing. He later married Stephanie Hepler, and they had two sons, John and Tom. They later divorced. In his twilight years, Cloyd met Barbara Santillan while serving at the Newport Beach, California, Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married in 2011, and she lovingly cared for him until her passing in 2018.
Cloyd was a true outdoorsman, especially enjoying hiking and backpacking, and serving as a trail guide for the Sierra Club. He also enjoyed his beloved Shetland Sheepdogs, competing in obedience trials sponsored by the American Kennel Association. Cloyd was a journeyman plumber-steamfitter and a lifelong member of United Association Local #582. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and his commitment to his faith was unwavering. In his later years, he found joy in serving in the Newport Beach temple.
Cloyd was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his siblings Eugene Colby (Myrna), Chett (Carolyn), Micala (Deno), and Rusty, his children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
