Debra Madsen

January 4, 1954 — March 31, 2011

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Debra Jensen Madsen, 57, passed away March 31, 2011 in Gunnison, from a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Debra was born January 4, 1954 in Gunnison, to Calvin and Matilda Anderson Jensen of Mayfield. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School where she was involved in drill team, student government and softball. She was a graduate of Snow College. She married her lifelong sweetheart, David Greaves Madsen, in the Manti Temple on June 20, 1975. David and Debra have lived in Christianburg their entire married life where they raised three hard-working, faithful sons.

Debra was her sweetheart’s personal accountant, secretary and office manager for their family businesses. Debra was active in the community. She gave countless hours in the Lion’s Club, PTA, and Bulldog Booster Club.

David and Debra enjoyed traveling with their family and friends. She loved spending time at the family cabin. She was an avid gardener, quilter, home decorator, cook, scrap booker and most of all, an amazing mother and grandmother.

She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various callings: Relief Society president and counselor, scout leader, pianist, primary teacher, and young women’s leader. Debra lived as the Savior taught with charity and love. She was the most giving, thoughtful, kind, compassionate and committed woman who was full of energy. Debra loved family time and she adored her grandchildren and wanted to have fun whenever together. She had a way of making everyone who entered her home feel welcome and cared for.

Debra is survived by her husband, David Madsen; children: Matthew (Rebecca Allen) Hines, Oregon; Michael (Emily Mecham), Christianburg; Trevor (currently serving an LDS Mission in the Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Mission); grandchildren: Caleb, Luke, Cora, and Kemree; brothers, Roger (Bonnie) Jensen, Gunnison and Wesley (Kathy) Jensen, Mt. Pleasant; sister, Nancy Burdette, Mayfield.

Preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Jack Madsen; sister-in-law, Michelle Madsen Ashton; brother-in-law, Paul Burdette; nephew, Stefane Tuttle.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Dwight Inouye and staff, as well as doctors and nurses who provided such loving care this past year at the Gunnison Valley Hospital, Gunnison Home Health, Huntsman Cancer Institute and Gunnison Cancer Clinic. They also express appreciation to the Mayfield Ward Relief Society, family, friends and the community for their out pouring of love and concern.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at the Mayfield LDS Chapel. Friends may call at the Mayfield Chapel, Sunday evening from 6-8 PM, and Monday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Mayfield Cemetery.
