Del Lamont Hansen

Del Lamont Hansen (January 10, 1937 - August 20, 2026)

Del, son of the late Lamont and Grace Hansen, was born in Centerfield, Utah, and raised in neighboring Gunnison, where he was known for his strong work ethic, holding many teenage jobs, from farm work to the local gas and service station. Also as a teen, he orchestrated a meeting with his future wife, Anadel Peterson, by stealing an apple from her family’s tree. The two were married on July 6, 1956, and celebrated their 70th anniversary shortly before his passing.

Together, Del and Anadel had two children, Kelly (Donna) Hansen and Debbie (Jay) Neese; four grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Rathbun, Tiffany Neese, William (Amber) Hansen, and Chris Hansen; and 3 great-grandchildren, Beckett and Cooper Rathbun, and Alice Hansen.

Hard work was the cornerstone of Del’s life. In the early years of his marriage, he held down two full-time jobs in Salt Lake City to ensure that his young family always had everything they needed. Throughout his career, he worked a range of jobs, from successful real estate agent to professional driver. He mastered the open road, first as a bus driver for Trailways during the golden age of highway travel, helping connect his passengers with many new destinations, and later as a commercial truck driver. He served as a local representative to the transit union during his tenure with Trailways.

Even at the end of his life, he loved to talk about his experience on the set of the 1979 movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, The Electric Horseman. He was working for Trailways at the time, and they needed a bus driver for a small speaking part during the climactic scene at the end of the movie.

After retiring, Del brought the same level of dedication to the financial markets as a day trader, while also enjoying spending his free time with his family.

In 2005, he and Anadel moved from Salt Lake City to Littleton, Colorado, to be close to their daughter and her family and to help care for their granddaughter, Tiffany, who has special needs. Though he missed living near the rest of his family in Utah, he enjoyed staying connected to them through long, daily telephone conversations with his son. Del enjoyed spending time with both of his great-grandsons in Colorado, where he was an important figure throughout their childhoods, and he loved looking at family photos, especially those of his great-granddaughter, Alice.

While he enjoyed his later years in Littleton, Colorado, Utah will always be his home, and he will be buried in his wife’s hometown of Manti, Utah. Del was preceded in death by his parents and four of his five siblings. He is survived by his wife, both children, and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him greatly!

There will be no formal services. Burial will be in the Manti Cemetery — Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti
