Diane Sutteer

January 29, 1940 — December 17, 2020

Diane Sutteer
Joseph, Utah

Diane Utley Sutteer, 80, left this world on December 17, 2020 in Richfield. She was born to Clynn and Althea Utley in late January of 1940 in the old Tushar Mountain mining town of Kimberley Utah, the third child of four. Soon after, her family moved to Clear Creek Canyon, where she lived for much of her childhood, before building a farm and home in Joseph. After high school, Diane went to college in Salt Lake City where she met and married Jim Sutteer. In 1963 they had their only child Brett.

While Diane was in Salt Lake she found ways to donate to her community by volunteering with urban youth programs, hosting foster children, and by donating vast quantities of blood due to the high demand of her rare blood type. It was here where she discovered her gift as a master gardener working for the largest floral and nursery in the Wasatch Front. Her very presence made the area thrive and bloom in many beautiful colors.

After her in divorce 1995, Diane returned to Joseph to care for her mother, Althea, as well as many of the other older residents of the Joseph area. She continued her obsessive gardening and, with Althea, produced copious canned goods becoming famous (amongst family and friends) for her pickles, peaches and amazing jams. During the winter months, those two ladies made quilts, afghans, and countless crafts to bless every member of the Utley clan, far and wide, and keep them warm for decades to come. Her great generosity showed through her work ethic and advocacy for other people, no matter their background.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clynn and Althea Utley, and her older brother Doug. She leaves behind many family members: her older sister Marilyn; younger brother, Gay;  son, Brett and daughter-in-law Pippa; and the great love of her life, her granddaughter Claret.

Her kindness and caring spirit will be deeply missed.
