In Loving Memory of Dixie Barton Davis

Dixie Barton Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born February 15, 1944, in Moab, Utah, to Alpha B. Barton and Etta Mary Bass of Monticello, Utah.

Dixie was the youngest child of a blended family of 17 children. She enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by a large and loving family, as well as many friends. She attended Monticello Elementary School and Monticello High School. She continued her education at the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City and attended a summer semester at Brigham Young University.

On September 10, 1964, Dixie married her beloved husband, John Elwood Davis of Annabella, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they were blessed with eight children. Her family was the center of her life, and she found great joy in being a mother. She especially treasured her 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

John and Dixie spent most of their 61 years together at their home in Hunter/West Valley, Utah, and raised their children there. They attended and served in many positions, with ward librarian being Dixie’s favorite in the Hunter 8th Ward, where they made many lifelong friends. John and Dixie also enjoyed their service in the Jordan River Temple as ordinance workers for six years. In her last years, they lived in their home in Annabella, Utah.

Dixie was a faithful and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was an important part of who she was and guided her throughout her life. She also had the opportunity to serve through her work with the Church Educational System, working in seminaries and institutes for approximately six years. She greatly enjoyed her work there and the opportunity it gave her to be around and serve young people.

Dixie will be remembered for her love of family, her faithful service, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

Though her family and friends will deeply miss her, they can take comfort in the many wonderful memories she created throughout her 82 years and in the love she so generously shared with those around her, who all look forward to the day they will be reunited with her again.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, all older half-siblings, one child, Alpha Daniel Davis, and her oldest grandchild, Chase Evans Gruver.

She is survived by her loving husband John, her children Deborah (Alan) Gregory, Dayna (Andy) Tolman, Janet, Jacqueline (Arden) DeMille, Johnny, Jill (Jason) Marnick, and Julie. Two brothers, Bruce (Bonnie) Barton, Grant (Jeanne) Barton, her sister Marietta (George, deceased) Kirby, and sister-in-law Doneal (Warren, deceased) Williams.

She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the Annabella 1st Ward Building. A viewing will be held prior to services, 10:30-11:30 AM. Burial will be in the Annabella Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, Manti
