Doris Tuft
Monroe, Utah
Doris Marie Porth Tuft, 95, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2022 at home in Monroe surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born September 17, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the only child of John George Jr. and Elsa “Elsie” Clara Jaich Porth. She grew up in Hialeah, Florida and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, graduating with a degree in elementary education.
Looking for excitement she joined the American Red Cross to work as a Recreation Specialist in a military hospital. She was shipped overseas to Tokyo Army Hospital in Japan during the Korean conflict. She voluntarily transferred to Okinawa Army Hospital where she met her husband John Carl Tuft from Monroe, Utah. They were married June 19, 1954 in Monroe; later solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Doris and Carl both accepted positions with Sevier School District where they stayed until their retirement in 1985. Doris loved teaching in both the junior high and elementary school. Her dedication to her students helped so many of them progress successfully through their lives.
In 1957 their first daughter, Carlene, was born and was (and has been ever since) a delight to her family. In 1965, their second daughter, Christene Emily, our little adventurer, joined the family.
The family spent many years boating and enjoying extended family and friends at our favorite place—Lake Powell.
Doris spent her retirement years splitting her time between warm Yuma, Arizona in the winter and enjoying the beautiful summers in Monroe.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life in Monroe, along with her years of genealogy work.
Doris is survived by her two loving daughters, Carlene and Chris.
