Douglas Grant Cox
Manti, UT

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Grant Cox, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed from this earthly life on December 8, 2023 surrounded by his wife Joyce Madsen Cox and children.  Douglas lived a life rich in love, faith, and service, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in Manti, Utah on May 22, 1940 to Grant and LuDean Hougaard Cox, as the youngest of three sons. He graduated from Manti High School and attended Snow College. He served his country as a member of the National Guard. His service in the Guard reflected his commitment to safeguarding the principles that make our nation strong. He married his elementary sweetheart, Joyce Madsen, on September 1,1962 in the Manti Temple. They had seven children of their own and claim another, Steve Conner, as one of their own. Douglas was the embodiment of hard work and dedication. A lifelong farmer and rancher specializing in turkeys and hay, He cultivated not only the land but also the strong values that defined his character. His hands were weathered from years spent tending to the fields and his heart was nourished by the bonds forged within his family and community.
One of Douglas's greatest sources of strength and purpose was his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served faithfully in various capacities, including a mission to the Southern States as a young man and later with his wife Joyce to San Antonio Texas, as well as a temple worker in the Manti Temple. He served as a bishop in a family ward and YSA ward, finding joy in the principles of love, service, and compassion. His commitment to the gospel was evident in the kindness he extended to others, leaving a legacy of selflessness that will endure through generations.
Beyond his professional and service accomplishments, Douglas was first and foremost a family man. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was immeasurable. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the warmth that comes from generations bound together by shared experiences and cherished moments.
Douglas served on both community and business boards. He enjoyed the mountains, and watching his children and grandchildren in athletics and other activities. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and family that will continue to inspire all who follow in his footsteps. May his memory be a blessing to us all.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Cox, and 8 children: Steve Conner of Kennewick WA, Leslie Torgerson of Richfield, Cynthia (Mark) Olson, Gary (Tricia) Cox, Annette (Ralph) Squire, Suzann (Brent) Rasmussen, Michael (Brittanie) Cox, all of Manti and Alan (Jenny) Cox of Surprise AZ; 35 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brother, Merrill Cox.  Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Cox and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Cox.
