Elaine June Holman

February 17, 1934 — March 13, 2022

Elaine Holman
St. George, Utah

Our beloved mother, Elaine June Anderson Holman, passed away peacefully in her home in St. George on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the age of 88.  She was born to Lee and Stella Jensen Anderson on February 17, 1934 in Salt Lake City. Raised in Ephraim and graduated from Snow College.

On April 20, 1956, Mom married John Cornell Holman and moved to Rose Park (in Salt Lake City) where they worked and raised their three children: Cynthia, Suzan, and John. Mom’s heart broke with the passing of her son, John, on February 19, 2022.

After graduating from Snow College and Utah State, Mom went on to a 30 year career at Wasatch Jr. High School teaching girls P.E. dance, gymnastics and health. She would later earn her master degree at the University of Utah. Teaching was her passion and she loved and was loved by many of her students.

Upon retirement she spent her days doing what she did best—caring for others. We all enjoyed the fruits and labor of her magnificent garden that she tended with such pride. Family and friends were also gifted with her beautiful hand-stitched quilts and embroidered dishtowels.

With the sad passing of Dad in 2003, Mom was blessed to find the love and companionship of dear friend, Gordon Hansen. She so loved the years they had together traveling and getting to know his beautiful family until his death in 2013. To the Hansen family, thank you for all the love and kindness you showed Mom.  Also thank you to dear friend and neighbor, Shauna Peck, for the many years of friendship and aiding Mom when she became too weak to do the things that needed to be done.

Mom is survived by her daughters: Cynthia (Butch) Schmidt, Suzan Bevan; daughter-in-law, Angie Holman; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and best friends, Janet (Lewis) Garbe, Laura (Dave) Bradley; and many nieces and nephews she dearly loved.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, John Scott; sisters and brothers-in-law: Stella Lee (Jay) Jensen, VaLene (Dick) Larsen; companion, Gordon Hansen.
