Elaine Thompson

Elaine Carter Thompson, 93, of Richfield, passed away August 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Elaine entered this life in a unique way, being born in her parents’ car in Weber Canyon on the way to Ogden. She arrived April 18, 1933, to Leo and Mae Carter.

Elaine grew up with an older brother, Gene, and two younger brothers, Larry and Ray. They were all protective of her, and she loved them with everything she had. Elaine married Rial Eugene Thompson Jr., March 21, 1953, in South Gate, California. They were married for 70 years and had two children, Ricky and Debbie.

Elaine and Rial were found most weekends at swap meets throughout California, finding treasures that would later be the start of their one-of-a-kind antique store. After Rial retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, they moved to Richfield, Utah, in 1979 and opened Nothing New Antiques on Main Street, and that store is still there today with over a million items.

Elaine and Rial also built a life in Richfield buying rental properties. During this time, she was able to form a close relationship with their realtor, Lisa, who quickly became like family to both Elaine and Rial. Rial was able to build such a great legacy with his family only because of the strong support system he had in Elaine, along with chocolate whipped cream cakes to keep everyone going. Anyone who knew Elaine knew she had a sweet tooth. From a pound of sugar in her coffee every morning to being the world’s top cinnamon roll connoisseur, she loved anything chocolate and sweet.

While Elaine never loved the spotlight, she did love visiting with the people in her life who always went out of their way to make sure she knew she was loved and that she was the most special lady, especially from her friend Jacquell. Elaine also loved getting her hair done each Wednesday and hearing jokes from the best hairdresser around, John.

Elaine is survived by her children, Ricky and Debbie; grandchildren, Josh Madsen; Jessie Waybrant; Roxanne (Brandon) Bobo; her brothers, Larry (Pam) Carter; Ray (Vickie) Carter; and multiple great-nieces and nephews who she adored.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rial; parents, Leo Elmer and Mae Turner Carter; and her sister, Leona Mae, and oldest brother, Gene.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at Magleby Mortuary (50 S 100 W, Richfield). A viewing will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, from 6:00-7:00 PM and prior to services from 10:30-11:30 AM. Burial will be in the Richfield Cemetery.
