Garth Vest
Mayfield, Utah

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Garth H Vest, 91, of Mayfield, Utah, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 in Centerfield, Utah. He was born on July 15, 1931 in Salina, Utah to Edward and Edra Vest.
Garth attended Snow College and later joined the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his military service, he attended Utah State University. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Barbara Bowcutt. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple in 1964. They were together for 65 years prior to Barbara’s passing in 2019. They have now been reunited to spend the eternities together.
Garth received a Master Degree in Education and spent 32 years teaching at Gunnison Elementary School where he helped shape the lives of many young students. He was also a farmer, truck driver, mechanic, carpenter, plumber, electrician and much more. You name it. He could do it. Garth served three terms as mayor of Mayfield and four terms on the city council. He was also president of the Mayfield Irrigation Company for several years. Garth loved Mayfield and was always giving back to the community in which he lived.
Garth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully as Elders Quorum president, Young Men’s president, and in the Primary. Garth loved the outdoors and spent many hours four wheeling in the mountains in his jeep and hunting deer. He was an expert marksman. Family always came first and Garth and Barbara were always supporting their children and grandchildren.
Garth is survived by his six children: Lynne Vest, Cindy (Brian) Howard, Billie (Wesley) Coates, Toni Wardle, Kurt (Donna) Vest, and Staci Vittetoe. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Betty Whitlock and Lola Jensen; and his sister-in-law Rowdy Bowcutt.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Clair Whitlock, Harvey Jensen, James Mac Bowcutt, and Joseph H Bowcutt III; and sisters-in-law: Linda Bowcutt and Kristie Bowcutt.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Mission at Community Rehab in Centerfield, Home Health and Hospice, Gunnison Valley Hospital, and Dr. Wade Anderson for their compassion and care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mayfield Ward Chapel, where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. or Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Mayfield Cemetery with military honors.
