Gary V Greenburg
1940-2026
Gary Van Greenburg passed away peacefully on the morning of July 31, 2026, at 85 years, 8 months and 6 days old. He was born November 25, 1940 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Gary was the foundation of a large and beautiful legacy. The man had character. He was large in stature; physically, spiritually and mentally. He played basketball in high school, nurtured a love of music on the accordion and listening to Bonnie play the piano, and had a penchant for fixing things. An avid nature's man, he fished, loved to water ski, camped, nurtured a bountiful garden, raised animals, and cared deeply for his family. He loved adventure, reading old westerns, and always had a pocket knife on his person. His dearest love was for his wife, Bonnie (he called her B or Bubbles). They married in Salt Lake City, Utah September 15, 1961 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple September 6, 1963. He had a deep understanding and strong testimony of the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving it's congregation and teaching it every chance he could. He served a mission with his beloved Bonnie in Concord, CA. Service was the backbone of his value system. He was honest and made fast friends with those around him. He operated his own service garage fixing cars, owned a tow truck company, and completed his career at Hill's Brother's Chemical as the plant operations manager. He gave sage advice. He was a critical thinker, finding solutions when he could, and asking for instruction when he needed to. He is our Gentle Giant. Our Strong Bulldog. Our Chief.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Lynn Greenburg; brother, Thomas (Carol) Greenburg children: Donald Gary (Janice) Greenburg, Jay Van Greenburg (Michelle), Julie Ann (Mark) Eisenhauer, Shelli Kae (David) Preece, Mary Lynn (Patrick) Phillips, Benjamin David (Rebecca) Greenburg, Rayola Theone (Jeremy) Brown, Kathrine Sue Greenburg; daughter-in-law, DelMarie Greenburg (wife of Kenneth Greenburg). Sixty-one grandchildren and sixty-one great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Byron and Norma Mary Farrer Greenburg; brother, Richard (Barbara) Greenburg; son, Kenneth Greenburg; son-in-law, Mark Eisenhauer; daughter-in-law, Karlyn Greenburg (wife of Benjamin Greenburg).
