Hays Yergensen

Hays Leon Yergensen, 53, passed peacefully Wednesday July 22nd, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.

Hays was born to Craig Lionel Yergensen and Rebecca Lynn Kesler February 1, 1973, in Englewood, Colorado.

Hays graduated from South Sevier High School in 1991. Hays continued his schooling at Snow College, obtaining a very high level of education in the automotive industry and auto body. Cars quickly became a very huge part of Hays’ life, from tinkering on them with friends to building full on race cars.

Hays had many accomplishments in life. He worked for Jorgensen Honda/ Powersports for 35 years. Hays began his career in the bicycle shop, then moved into a motorcycle/ ATV technician before moving into the parts department where he spent the remainder of his 30 years. He won many car show trophies over the years of showing his car, many trophies were won through his racing career, but his greatest accomplishment was building his family and raising his children.

On June 5, 1992, Hays was injured in an ATV accident which led to him becoming a quadriplegic. Hays spent three and a half months at the University of Utah hospital. There he learned how to manage his new lifestyle, becoming more and more himself every day. After nine months of being home, he was determined to get his driver's license. He spent many hours in his truck learning and adapting to his new way of driving.

On June 3, 1995, Hays married his greatest love, Heather Shipp. They built their life in Elsinore, Utah with their two children. They built a loving life that surrounded their kids with love, compassion, and adrenaline. Hays never ceased to take a moment to test Heather’s patience with spinning donuts in the truck or making his children laugh doing the same things.

Hays’ limitations never slowed him down. From riding four wheelers, to his Honda Pilot, to building full on race cars, always looking for the next boost of adrenaline. He raced at St George Raceway for 8 years then proceeded to take the family racing in Las Vegas at The Strip. While doing so, winning was never the priority, becoming one with the machine, letting everything around him fade, feeling every cylinder fire, listening to every exhaust note, was what he strived for. While winning is always something to be proud of, he enjoyed being with his very best friends doing the things that he loved.

Hays is survived by his wife, Heather Yergensen; his children, Hadleah Yergensen, Haylan and Brekelle Yergensen; his three granddaughters, Reynzlee, Rydglynn, and ElleeMae, his parents, Craig and Becky Yergensen; and his brother, Shane and Sheli Yergensen.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Laurie Lynn Yergensen; his grandparents, Reed and Jean Kesler, Lynn and Donna Hansen, Leon and Zola Yergensen, and his little dog Cardi.

Funeral services will be held next Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Monroe Stake Center. A viewing will be held Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Magleby Mortuary from 6:00-8:00 pm and at the Stake Center in Monroe prior to services from 9:00-10:30 am. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery.
