Horace Buddy Qualls Jr., a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man, passed away on June 14, 2025, in Monroe, Utah at the age of 84. Born on July 13, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Buddy grew to become a person of remarkable warmth and character, touching the lives of many through his genuine kindness and engaging spirit.

Buddy's career began with his distinguished service in the United States Navy, where he learned his skills as an electrician. Following his military service, he joined PacificCorp and worked diligently in managing two major power plant operations, achievements of which he took great pride. His professional journey reflected what a great leader and mentor he was to all those around him.

As a person who thrived on connection, Buddy had an extraordinary gift for conversation. He was described as smart and simple, with a great sense of humor that endeared him to all he met. His love for teaching and his dedication to service extended into his community, where he offered his skills as an electrician, supporting neighbors and friends with his talents.

A devoted husband, Buddy adored his wife, Shirley Curtis Alford Qualls, whom he considered the pride and joy of his life. Together, alongside their children, he created countless memories traveling across the states, sharing laughter and love. Buddy's commitment to family extended beyond his immediate household; he enjoyed every moment spent with his sons, Dennis and Sunny Alford, as well as his grandsons—Ashley (Shalonn) Alford, Cody (Danyesa) Alford, CJ (Lacey) Alford, and Garrett—and granddaughter, Jennifer Trujillo. He was a proud grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, whose accomplishments brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

Buddy possessed many interests that complemented his love for family. He enjoyed exploring his ancestry through family history and genealogy. Passionate about gardening and bird watching, he found great joy in nature’s wonders and spent his spare time collecting beautiful rocks, something that showed his deep appreciation for the world around him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Terry Lee Alford and Gerald Boyd Alford; parents, Bessie Shipley and Horace Qualls Sr; siblings, Ruby, Lela, Mary, and Billie.

Buddy leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and a commitment to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed, remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
