James Augustus Bailey

James Augustus Bailey, 87, passed away February 18, 2011, at his home in Richfield, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 21, 1924, in Middletown, Connecticut, to George Henry and Ethel Jeanette Crowell Bailey. He married Betty Gay Peterson, in Glenwood, on April 3, 1954.

Jim grew up in Middletown, CT, where his family had a farm. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army, where he served for three years in Europe during WWII. After returning home, he moved out west to pursue his education. There he met and married Betty. They have been married for 57 years and have three children.

Jim was a realtor for Boise Cascade for many years. After retiring from there, he worked as the custodian at Ashman Elementary. At 75 years of age, he retired to spend more time with his loving family. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, camping, and especially fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, Richfield; children, Melody (Garth) Johns, Glenwood; Neal (Maria) Bailey, Ivins; and Robin Bailey (Sid) Anderson, North Las Vegas, NV; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Hughes, Grand Junction, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, Richfield. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m and on Thursday 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
