James Edward Connelly, 73, passed away peacefully on May 27th 2026, in his beloved state of Utah, surrounded by ‘Red Rock Blue Sky’.

Born on Monday, January 5th, 1953, in New Rochelle, Jim began his adventure-filled life following a very unique calling. At 18, he hitchhiked across countries and continents, collecting stories instead of possessions and friendships instead of traditional wealth. Wherever he went, strangers became companions, and companions became family. By the end of his journeys, he had friends scattered around the earth and enough stories for a thousand lifetimes.

To know him was to witness a man with profound faith in earth and humanity. He saw the sacred in people, in animals, and in the Earth itself. His life was an act of service.

There was a stoicism to him, a quiet strength that carried him through life's hardships. Yet beneath that strength was the soul of a storyteller. Like an Irish bard of old, he gathered people wherever he went.

More than anything, he taught through example. He showed that a meaningful life is not measured by titles, wealth, or status, but by generosity, courage, curiosity, and compassion. He taught that the world is vast, beautiful, and worthy of exploration.

His greatest legacy remains in the hearts of those he met along the way. The countless lives he touched stand as proof that a person does not need to change the whole world to leave it better than they found it.

He leaves behind a loving family, countless friends around the world, an epic reading/music list, and, most importantly, a list of hikes.

"He was a true lover of beauty, goodness, and truth. He found meaning and insight through his treks in the natural world. He died a kind, wise, and courageous man." - Ty, his final guardian angel.
