James Calvin Schow, 79, Escalante, passed away August 4, 2011 in Provo. He was born April 15, 1932 in Escalante to Andrew H and Mildred Twitchell Schow. He married Martha Rae Bailey June 9, 1956 in Evanston, Wyoming. Marriage solemnized January 31, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Cal was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served in Germany as a crash rescue firefighter. He worked for CB&I as a welder/fitter for 32 years, and for Mark Steel Company for nine years. An active member of the LDS church, serving in two bishoprics and attended the temple regularly. A member and served as president in both the Escalante Lion’s Club and Sons of Pioneers. He was an active person who loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting and camping. Cal was a wonderful man who provided for and adored his family. Men like him are few and far between. He will be greatly missed.
Survived by his wife, Martha, of Escalante; children: Stephany (Chad) Homer, West Valley; Melloney (Dale) Robins, Scipio; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents; children: Calvin Clay, Janine, Andrew, Sheldon, Cory; and six brothers and eight sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Escalante 1 st Ward where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery with miltiary rites by the Escalante American Legion Post #114. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
