Jan Roper

Jan B. Roper, 71, of Gunnison, Utah, passed away in her home surrounded by family on August 29, 2026, after a short battle with bladder cancer.

Jan was born July 4, 1955, to Bernus and Marilyn Blackham. She is the oldest of five children.

After graduating from North Sanpete High, Jan attended Snow College and then Utah State University, where she earned a Bachelor's and Master of Education. While at Utah State, she met John Barnard Roper. The two were married in the Manti Temple on Aug 11, 1977, and had 49 wonderful years together.

Jan was a loving mother and educator. She taught elementary school for nearly 40 years. Every child that was in her class was one of “her kids”. Jan had the ability to see the best in all of her students and could make a child believe in themselves and their ability to succeed in school.

Jan is survived by her husband John, daughter Jessie, son Jade, and her brothers Jon, Jack, and Jed Blackham. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim Blackham.

A viewing will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Gunnison Utah Stake Center, 80 West Center Street. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gunnison Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to all services.
