Jeffery Cloyd Childs
October 24, 1960 – May 21, 2025
Jeffery Cloyd Childs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Venice, Utah after a valiant fight with cancer. He was 64 years old.
Born on October 24, 1960, in Tooele, Utah, Jeff was the son of Mary June Buchanan Childs Tychsen and Cloyd William Childs, who preceded him in death. Jeff was a devoted husband to Becky Childs, a loving father to Collin Childs (Taylor), and grandfather to Greta Childs.
Jeff dedicated his career to advancing medical research, retiring in 2018 after 30 years at the University of Utah Health Sciences. Throughout his career, he directed large national clinical trials that made lasting contributions to public health. His colleagues remember him not only for his leadership but also for the humor and humanity he brought to his work.
After retirement, Jeff and Becky embraced a quieter life in the small town of Venice, Utah—a place Jeff held dear. They traveled, enjoyed their time together, and poured their hearts into building Jeff’s dream: a peaceful two-acre home where they could live surrounded by the beauty and calm of rural life. When the weather was warm, you could often find him tending to his garden with his beloved dog, Summer, by his side.
In recent years, Jeff found profound joy in becoming a grandfather. His time with his new granddaughter, Greta, brought him immeasurable happiness and a sense of wonder he often spoke about with a full heart. He also treasured the moments shared with his great nieces and nephews. It is our hope that their memories of Uncle Jeff will remain as bright and cherished as the joy he felt in their presence.
Jeff was known for his wicked sense of humor, quick wit, and the ability to make others laugh even in the most unexpected moments. He often said how truly blessed he felt to have so many wonderful friends—and anyone who knew Jeff would say they felt the same about knowing him.
His presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Jeff’s memory will live on in the stories he told and the laughter he shared.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; son, Collin (Taylor); granddaughter, Greta; sister, Deanne; brother, Bruce (Arleen); 4 nieces and 1 nephew; and great nieces and nephews. All of whom he adored.
