Elsinore, Utah

Jerome Leonard “JL” Peterson, age 103, formally of Elsinore, Utah, passed away peacefully at the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, UT on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
JL was born April 30, 1919 in Polk County, MN, one of 7 brothers and 2 sisters.  During his youth, he attended school where he learned farming and animal husbandry.  During the Great Depression, JL and his brothers worked in President Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps where they earned money to send home to their parents during those hard times.
When he was of age, JL voluntarily joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and was stationed with the 14th Air Force, 308th Bombardment Group, 425th Bombardment Squadron as a Line Mechanic and Crew Chief for B-24D bombers used for hauling gasoline, oil, bombs, spare parts, and other items between China and India by way of the Himalayan Mountains, affectionately called “The Hump” by the troops in that theater.
When JL returned home from WWII,  he met and married his wife Virginia and began their new lives together in Southern California.  It was there that they welcomed their son, Jerome W. “Corky” Peterson in June of 1948.  JL entered into the construction industry where he learned the trades that led him into his own contracting business, laying glass block, setting tile and ultimately building custom homes. Other ventures included retail concrete products and a partnership in a family hardware store.   When Virginia passed in 1978, JL decided to live the rest of his life where he was the happiest.  Hunting, fishing and farming in Utah.  Shortly after his move to Utah he and Betty Cook married, lived happily until her death in June, 1999.
In 2017 JL entered into assisted living at The Beehive in Richfield.  Later he transferred, residing at the Veteran’s Home in Payson Utah where he lived until his death.
JL was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his wives Virginia Peterson and Betty Peterson; and his grandson Jason L. Peterson.
He is survived by son Jerome W. “Corky” Peterson, his wife Jan of Elsinore; grandson, Josh and wife Lea, of Ooltewah, TN;  Jason’s wife, Kirstie A. Peterson, Sacramento, CA; and 3 great-grandchildren.
The Peterson family have been extremely blessed to have such wonderful people assisting in the care of  JL, and would like to express their utmost gratitude and thanks to the loving staff at the Beehive in Richfield, UT and the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, UT.
Cremation services to be held at the Magleby Mortuary Crematory. The Peterson family is planning a private remembrance ceremony for JL in the near future. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
