Jerri LaRae Ivie

October 28, 1950 — April 20, 2022

Jerri Ivie
Salina, Utah

Jerri LaRae Hunt Ivie joined us in life on October 28, 1950, in Tooele, Utah. She spent many years of her youth growing up in Grover, Utah. Her beauty and friendly nature attracted people to her. Her caring ways made them longtime friends. She graduated from Wayne High School and enjoyed being a beautician in Provo, Utah. But shortly returned to Wayne County to help her first husband build Chappell’s Cheese Company. She then sought more education at Snow College, graduating as an LPN while raising her seven children.

She loved to play guitar and sing. Her older children remember her jamming with well-respected musicians, who still ask about her today. A local TV show recognized her talent and invited her to play on their TV show.

She also enjoyed spending time with family and dancing. She met Dee Ivie on main street in Gunnison and fell in love. They spent the next 27 years raising their 11 children, hunting for Native American artifacts and enjoying life.

Jerri truly faced life as an adventure. In 1998 Jerri survived a life threatening fight with a hemorrhagic stroke and aneurysms to her brain. Because of her grit and resilience, topped with a strong work ethic, she walked away healthy. Even when weak from surgery she faced life with a smile as she would keep “running up the hills”.

When fighting illness and other challenges Jerri helped others enjoy life. A true light to everyone around her, a beacon of acceptance and love, while being true to her beliefs.

She later became Post Certified and started working for Utah Department of Corrections in 2000. She enjoyed helping and instructing the inmates at the Gunnison Prison. She possessed a demeanor of humility and honesty that commanded respect. She is the only prison guard to have the inmates sing “I am a child of God” to help them get a better attitude.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed working in the Manti Temple. She also enjoyed accompanying her children and their spouses in attending the temple.

Due to her passing on April 20, 2022, at her home in Salina, she will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her husband Dee Ivie; children: Blain and Amy Chappell, Laura and Jay Hales, George and Holly Chappell, Cena and Andy Rasmussen, Melina and Ryan Huntsman, Charles and Erika Chappell, Teri and Doug Hart, Jeremy and Mackenzie Ivie, Angie Ivie, Robyn Ivie Davis and Darin and Lacie Ivie. As well as her sisters: Marsha Lancaster, Flora Hallows, Lafawn Kelly; and her brother, Terry Hunt. As in life, her friendship will continue to grow through her 30 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

Preceded in death by her parents, Norma Dean Hunt and Fawn Ellis Hunt; sister, Vicki Nebeker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Salina Creek Ward Chapel, 87 South 100 East, where friends may call from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be on Tuesday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m. in the Strawberry Cemetery in Duchesne, Utah.
