Joyce Parker Shipp, 89, passed away peacefully from this life on September 22, 2021 in Monroe, Utah. She was born October 20, 1931, in Joseph, Utah, alongside her twin sister, to James Elbert Parker and Lucina Snow. She was the youngest of 11 children, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Joyce graduated from South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah in 1949 and attended Brigham Young University for 1 term before marrying Charles Edward Shipp, Jr. on July 15, 1950, in Joseph. Their marriage was later solemnized on July 22, 1962 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Joyce lived her entire life in Joseph, raising 7 children. She worked part-time as a lunch lady at the high school and elementary school in Monroe. She then worked full-time as a doctor’s assistant for Dr. Robert Allen for several years at Sevier Valley Clinic in Richfield. She eventually held a position as manager in the kitchen at the Sevier Valley Hospital and then as the dietitian at the Gunnison Hospital where she eventually retired.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted her life to multiple callings within the Church. She was also a longtime member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Joyce’s favorite past time was baking, playing cards at “Club” and any other time she could rope anyone else into playing a game of gin rummy, plus driving many miles to visit friends and family. She was always seen helping at the Joseph Town July 4th celebration and at the town voting polls.
Joyce is survived by her children: Randall (Linda) Shipp, Joseph; Russell (Jill) Shipp, Provo; Rex (Stacia) Shipp, Cedar City; Rebecca Johns, Winchester, VA; Richard (Annette) Shipp, Chubbuck, ID; Rowland (Brynn) Shipp, Joseph; Renee (A.J.) Castagnetta, Hopelawn, NJ; 26 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Melba Larsen, Santaquin; Janice (Dale) Jeffs (twin), Provo.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Shipp Jr.; a son, Ronald Shipp; parents, James E. and Lucina Parker; and siblings, Gerald, Vernon, Iris Corry, Lynn, Glenn, Sylvia Hunt, Fay, and Margaret Jensen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Joseph LDS Ward Chapel, in Elsinore. Friends may call for viewing at the Magleby Mortuary, in Richfield, Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., or at the ward chapel in Elsinore Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Joseph Cemetery.
