“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” -Abraham Lincoln.
Our angel mother’s strong and beautiful spirit left her earthly body after a long, hard and brutal fight with Parkinson’s disease on April 15, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Syracuse. Kathy reunited with her sweetheart after only a short 9 months from his passing. We can imagine how beautiful their meeting was once Mom was able to finally go through the veil.
Katherine Ann Bingham Higgins was born on August 17, 1950 to Vern and Delores Bingham in Ogden. Kathy was a Jane-Of-All-Trades. Anything that she set her mind to, she made a way to be able to do it and do it well. Kathy had beautiful calligraphy handwriting. When Kathy was a young girl, she competed in ice skating competitions, usually taking first place at her meets.
Kathy was very active in their small community of Gunnison. She was the chair for the Old Folks Party where she would plan and organize the event each year for the Old Folks Organization. Kathy was the PTA president for many years at the Gunnison Valley Elementary School. Kathy also had many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Primary president, Young Women leader and Primary Sunday School teacher. Kathy served a church service mission with her loving husband, Stanley, and together worked at the Bishop’s Storehouse.
Kathy’s greatest joy came from her family. She was very present for her children throughout their lives whether it was for academics, church or sporting activities. Kathy made an effort to have the hard conversations and gave the best advice.
Kathy is survived by her 7 children: Tori Higgins (Steve Kesler), Beaver; Darrin Higgins, Hildale; Clinton (Ethan) Higgins, Benicia, CA; Kami (Jeffrey) Applegate, Syracuse; Mitzi (Lark) Reynolds, Tooele; Laci (Thomas) Sinnott, Grantsville; Faith (Russ) Stevens, Lake Point; daughters-in-law: Misty Higgins and Ania Higgins; son-in-law: Jeffery Gates; 28 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W Higgins; parents; and sisters, Vickie and Debbie.
Funeral services for Kathy will be on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gunnison 5th Ward Chapel in Centerfield, Utah. A morning viewing will be held that day from 9:30-10:30 at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Gunnison Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.     The Higgins siblings and families would like to express gratitude to the many care givers that have helped Mom throughout the years. We would also like to express gratitude to Kami, Kathy’s daughter, for caring for Mom in her home and giving her the best life these past few years.
    We love you Momma!
