LaGrand Sorensen

LaGrand Sorensen, age 93, passed away on June 12, 2026, in West Valley City, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 22, 1932, in Glenwood, Utah, to James Elmer and Mattie Bell Sorensen. He married Karen Suzanne Salisbury on July 10, 1952, in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She passed away in January 2004. For many years, Dad looked forward to being reunited with her.

Dad was an example to his family of someone who lived the gospel of Jesus Christ. He held many positions in the Church throughout his life. He was a temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple. With his wife, he served two missions for the Church in Cove Fort, Utah, and Cody, Wyoming. These missions did wonders for Dad, as he was always a quiet person—unless you were talking about cars and trucks. After serving these missions, he became more outgoing and would often start conversations with others.

Dad loved the outdoors. Fish Lake was his favorite spot for camping and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting deer in the mountains around Fish Lake and Cove Mountain. He and Mom always made the holidays important, and our family gathered together throughout the year to celebrate them. Dad was a self-taught auto mechanic and enjoyed working on cars, which saved his family a great deal of money on repair bills. Dad’s memory was sharp, and he loved telling stories about his childhood. He called those years the “good old days.” He loved growing up in the small town of Glenwood, Utah.

Dad was a hard worker and instilled those values in his children. He graduated from Richfield High School and later attended Utah State University. After trying his hand at farming, he moved his family to West Valley City, Utah. He worked for Hercules Corporation and later for Highland Dairy until his retirement.

Dad and Mom also caught the travel bug. Together, they visited many amazing places around the world. These trips were special to them and provided countless cherished memories.

We, as a family, would like to thank Sandra for the many years she lovingly cared for Dad as his primary caregiver. We want her to know how much we appreciate her devoted service and the many personal sacrifices she made along the way.

LaGrand is survived by his children, Mark (Bonnie) Sorensen, Craig (Pam) Sorensen, Blaine (Cheryl) Sorensen, Sandra (Kay) Larsen, and Kevin (Jill) Sorensen; 22 grandchildren; and 63 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Sorensen; his brothers, Wayne Sorensen, Harold Sorensen, Junius Sorensen, Chad Sorensen, and Fred Sorensen; his sister, Belle Heilesen; and his grandson, Randy Sorensen.

Funeral Services will be held in 2 WEEKS on Saturday June 27, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30-10:30 am. Burial will be in the Glenwood Town Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti
