Lance Richards

Lance Thomas Richards, age 40, passed away on August 8, 2026, in Provo, Utah. He was born on August 19, 1985, in Price, Utah, to Dale and LaNora “Kris” Richards. Lance was truly one of a kind. If you ever had the privilege of meeting him, you didn’t forget him. He had a way of leaving an impression—not only because of his humor and personality, but because of his kindness, his enormous heart, and the strength with which he lived his life. Lance was funny, kind, loving, patient, brave, and incredibly strong. He was admired by so many, and throughout his life, he changed people for the better simply by being Lance. An amazing artist, Lance had a natural creativity and talent that could be seen in his work. He also loved being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, sports, and just getting outside were some of the things that brought him happiness.

Even when life presented him with challenges, Lance continued to show remarkable patience, courage, and determination. His strength was something those around him witnessed again and again. He taught those who knew him about perseverance, finding humor even in difficult moments, and appreciating the opportunity to simply get out and live.

Lance is survived by his father, Dale Richards; his brother, Aaron Richards (Cassandra); his sisters, Michelle Richards, Bethany Richards, and Ashlee Monroe (Matthew); and his 10 beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, LaNora “Kris” Richards, and his brother, Douglas Richards.

Lance’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and friends at Provo Rehabilitation and Nursing for loving Lance, caring for him, laughing with him, and becoming such an important part of his life. Knowing that Lance was surrounded by people who genuinely cared about him meant more to his family than words can express.

The family would also like to extend a special thank-you to the University of Utah

TRAILS program for giving Lance the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors again. Being outside was such an important part of who Lance was, and the experiences made possible through this program brought him happiness, adventure, and a chance to once again do the things he loved.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Emery, Utah. A viewing will be held beforehand at the Emery Chapel from 9:30 until 10:30. Everyone who knew and loved Lance is welcome to attend as we gather to remember him, share stories, laugh, cry, and celebrate a life that touched so many others.

Lance’s life was not measured by the challenges he faced, but by the way he faced them—with strength, patience, bravery, humor, and love.

If you knew Lance, you have a Lance story. You probably remember something he said, something he did, a time he made you laugh, or simply the way he made you feel. Those stories are part of the legacy he leaves behind. He was an artist, an outdoorsman, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend.

He was strong.

He was loved.

And he will never be forgotten.
