Leah Bell Fillmore

March 17, 2012 — May 11, 2011

Our cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Leah Bell Oldroyd Fillmore, 91, passed into the loving arms of her husband, daughter and parents on May 11, 2011. Leah was born March 17, 1920 to LaMar and Madia Iris Bell Oldroyd in Venice. She weighed only 2½ pounds at birth and spent the first six weeks of life in a cotton-filled shoe box on the kitchen oven door. Leah was tiny, but mighty. She not only survived, but thrived.

Leah was a graduate of Richfield High School and Excelsis College of Cosmetology. She met Stanford Fillmore in Richfield and they were married September 27, 1940 in the Manti Temple. They remained loving sweethearts until his passing December 21, 1988.

Leah and Stanford settled in the small town of Annabella. They raised their family of one daughter and four sons under the shadow of their beloved Cove Mountain. In addition to her roles as mother and homemaker, Leah operated a small beauty salon in her home. There she enjoyed visiting with friends while styling their hair. She later worked for 13 years in the Sevier District School Lunch Program. She also worked at JC Penney’s as a sales associate for a number of years.

Leah had lots of energy and was a hard worker. She and Stanford raised a large garden each year. She loved canning the produce from the garden, helping to provide for her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She was an immaculate homemaker and prided herself on a clean house. She had a real "sweet-tooth" and her cupboard always held candy and sweets for the grandchildren. Leah dearly loved serving her husband and family. We are greatly blessed because of her efforts.

Leah was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully wherever called. She and Stanford served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for many years.

Leah will be remembered for her lovely smile, happy disposition, and positive attitude. She often handled the stresses of life with a cheerful "Oh Fiddle DeeDee."

Leah is survived by sons: Stan Merrill (Carolyn King) Fillmore, Kaysville; Dale L (Kathy Hemming) Fillmore, Alpine; Wayne Kay (Janet Anderson) Fillmore, Richfield; and Jack Ray (Cheryl Hansen) Fillmore, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; son-in-law, Dallas (Suzanne) Peterson, Annabella; 22 grandchildren and 61-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Norma (Maynard) Jensen, Tooele.

Preceded in death by her husband Standford; her beloved daughter, Saundra Lee Fillmore Peterson; parents; brothers, Alvin and Rex Oldroyd.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the Apple Tree Assisted Living Center in Kaysville and the Utah Hospice Specialists for their compassionate and tender care of our sweet mother. Also, appreciation to the Annabella Relief Society sisters for their compassionate services.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. in the Annabella 1 st LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the ward chapel, in Annabella, on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Annabella Cemetery.
