Listen to Obituary

Leo J. Butcher, 81, of Mayfield, Utah, passed away on June 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Leo was born on February 15, 1945, to Delbert Butcher and Lucy Butterfield. He was a man of strong values, a tireless work ethic, and a deep love for his family. Throughout his life, he built lasting friendships, created countless memories, and left an impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Above all else, Leo loved his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world and his greatest source of pride and joy. Nothing made him happier than spending time with family, sharing stories, making people laugh, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Leo had a passion for old cars and racing from a young age. He spent countless weekends at the racetrack and truly lived life a quarter mile at a time. He loved old cars, burnouts, and anything with an engine. Whether he was talking about racing, cars he had owned, or adventures from years gone by, Leo could tell stories for hours and always kept everyone entertained. If you knew Leo, you knew he always had a story to tell and a smile on his face.

Later in life, Leo found a love for country living and made his home in Mayfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Jeep rides, spending time in the outdoors, and cooking with his Dutch ovens. Some of his favorite memories were made in the mountains with family and friends. Whether he was around a campfire, preparing a Dutch oven meal, or sharing stories with those he loved, Leo was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.

Leo spent more than 50 years as a truck driver and took great pride in his work. He retired from Robinson Transportation after a long and successful career behind the wheel. He was respected for his skill as a driver and was one of the few drivers who could back a set of doubles for over a hundred yards with ease. His work ethic, dedication, and knowledge earned the respect of everyone who knew and worked with him.

Those who knew Leo knew they could always count on him. He was the kind of man who would help anyone in need, no matter the time of day or night. Whether it was a friend, neighbor, or one of his children calling at one o'clock in the morning, Leo was always there without hesitation. He would do anything for anyone and never expected anything in return. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others defined the man he was.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Wade Anderson and the staff at Mid-Utah Family Medicine for the care, compassion, and friendship they showed Leo over the years. A special thank you is also extended to the staff at the Mission at Community Rehabilitation Center in Centerfield. Although Leo was only there for a short time, the kindness, compassion, and care shown to him and his family will never be forgotten. The phone call Wade made to Leo while he was in the hospital brought him comfort, lifted his spirits, and truly made his day.

Leo is survived by his children, Debbie Butcher, Darin (Heidi) Butcher, Kent (Shana) Butcher, Rochell (Larry) Moore, Russ Stromness, Shane Elmer, and Rodney (Brandie) Butcher; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his father, Delbert Butcher; his mother, Lucy Butterfield Butcher; and his sister, Shirley Jones.

Leo's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he built throughout his life, and the countless people he helped along the way. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

"A life well lived leaves a legacy of love."
