Lois Fox
Mayfield, Utah

Lois Jean Fox, known as “Elg” to those who loved her, passed peacefully at the age of 86 on Tuesday morning, December 20, 2022 in Mt. Pleasant. She was born September 4, 1936 in Richfield to J.D. and Estella Anderson Sandberg. She spent the last 35 years of her life living in Mayfield, Utah with her loving husband of 57 years. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Fox, her son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Jane; granddaughter, Emily; and sister, Joyce.
Lois worked at the Department of Employment Security in Salt Lake City for several decades before moving south with her husband to open MidState Jeep Parts in Gunnison, Utah. They ran a thriving business together for more than twenty years, Marv up front and Lois handling the book keeping.
Lois would do anything for her son, Michael, including advocating he get a drum set at age twelve, much to the neighbors’ chagrin.
She loved the outdoors, choosing to spend her time in the sun on family camping trips. She was an avid hiker and cross-country skier, always ready to explore the wilderness from the passenger side of her husband’s Jeep 4x4. In her later years, she enjoyed taking long walks through the park with her son, Michael, and friend, Zara. She helped to establish the Mayfield Lions Club chapter and gave back to the community when she could. She was a member of the Mayfield town council, as well as the literary club. Lois had inherited a keen love of cards from her mother and was tenacious at rummy. She loved Halloween and movie musicals, instilling the love of both in her son and granddaughter (with grudging acceptance from her husband).
She had a lifelong compassion for animals and often found herself taking in strays others had abandoned, giving them the care they needed, and a warm, safe place to call home.
Her oatmeal raisin cookies were legendary.
Lois leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love and she will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Estella Delain Humphrey.
