Listen to Obituary

Juana Dean Julander Hunt passed away on May 22, 2026, in Logan, Utah. She now walks again among the desert wildflowers with her eternal companion, Berl Hunt. Juana was born on September 29, 1929, in Elsinore and lived much of her life there.

Juana is preceded in death by her husband, Berl Hunt, parents (Carl and Violet Julander), five siblings (Jay, Barbara, Duane, Alice, and MacRay), two of her six children (Carl Joseph and Jeff), two sons-in-law (David Lehnhof and Gregory Ward Sr.), daughter-in-law (Kandi Hunt), and countless relatives from the Hunt, Julander, and Busk families, whom she remembered and spoke of with great affection.

Juana had a strong love for and commitment to her husband, Berl. They were a beautiful example of a couple who deeply loved and enjoyed one another. They camped and fished together at local reservoirs, with Juana often boasting that she caught the largest fish. She was also known for baiting her own hook and teaching the skill to her grandchildren. Berl and Juana enjoyed taking drives through the mountains and desert, stopping to enjoy the flowers and share a picnic she had packed for them. In retirement, she and Berl spent winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, living in their fifth-wheel trailer on the desert. One of their traveling highlights was driving to Alaska and spending the summer there.

Juana was a gardener. She maintained a colorful display of flowers from spring through fall. Her gardening legacy continues through the iris and peony transplants she shared, which still thrive today in the yards of others. She also tended a bountiful vegetable garden. She and Berl worked together planting, weeding, and harvesting. She was skilled at bottling tomatoes, green beans, and beets, which she generously shared with others.

Juana also baked treats. Her sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, turtles, raisin-filled cookies, pecan pie, and many other homemade goodies were lovingly prepared and shared. Peanut brittle, chocolate chip cookies, and gumdrop cookies were hallmarks of her kitchen. Several of these recipes and techniques have been passed down to her great-grandchildren. Memorial Day was her favorite holiday. Throughout her life, it represented the beginning of summer and family visits. During the holiday, she always made sure to bake plenty and provide a variety of sweets to share. Over the holiday, many will remember catching up with Juana while sitting at her snack bar or table, nibbling on a treat, and sipping tea, coffee, or a glass of milk.

Juana will be remembered and loved by so many. Surviving Juana are her sister-in-law and dear friend, Jean Julander; four of her children (Berlene Ward, Barbara Lehnhof, Bryan Hunt, and Ken Hunt), eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
