LuAnn Peterson
Centerfield, Utah
LuAnn E. Peterson passed away November 25, 2023 in Centerfield. She was born on September 20, 1931. She was the oldest of two daughters born to Edgar C. and Mabel B. Nielsen of Centerfield. She grew up in Centerfield and attended local schools. She and dad received their high school diplomas together in 1979. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She met her future husband, Jack W. Peterson, at an outdoor dance floor situated near Redmond Lake. They were married on October 6, 1948. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on July 21, 1955.
Dad ran a plumbing/heating business from his home, and Mom took care of the bookkeeping for the business. There wasn’t delivery services as there is today, so Mom made frequent trips to Salt Lake City to get parts and components for the business.
In the 1960’s, Mom was the coach for a church-sponsored girls’ softball team. Thanks to her time, efforts, and enthusiasm the team was a competitive champion.
Dad handcrafted his first boat and named it “Louie” after his wife. He and Mom spent countless hours at Palisade and Redmond lakes teaching anyone who wanted to learn how to water ski. What patience that had to take. They purchased a larger boat eventually, and then participated in taking several youth groups from the Centerfield Ward to Lake Powell, teaching them to water ski. They all loved it!
Mom and Dad loved their RV’s. During the years when mountain camping was less restrictive than it is today, Dad and Mom would take the RV up 12-Mile Canyon, park it at their favorite flat, leave it all summer, and travel up the mountain road to enjoy it every weekend. They also had a favorite camping spot just north and east of the Yuba turnoff where they set up camp every Easter. The grandkids spent countless hours riding wheelers, exploring the area, and
getting scrapes and scratches along the way. Many memories remain of mile marker 17.
In later years, they purchased a motor home and traveled around the western U.S. and Canada. Then they discovered Quartzite, AZ. Every January, they would load up, travel down south, and stay for a couple months. They spent many hours exploring the area and never seemed to tire of desert camping.
Mom loved to quilt, spending countless hours at the Senior Center continuously pricking her fingers to produce perfect beautiful stitches. Mom could make a lemon pie that was delicious and requested everywhere she went. She loved fixing food for the grand kids, especially ebleskievers (a Danish pancake) in a well-worn cast iron skillet.
Mom always had lots of friends around her, and they visited at each other’s homes often, even meeting every morning for “social hour.”
She is survived by children: Jacklyn Bartholomew, Jeri Olsen, Garald, and Natalie (John) Ross; 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
LuAnn is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Valerie Dennison; and son-in-law Jay N. Olsen.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the Mission at Community Rehabilitation Center and the Gunnison Valley Hospital for the care and compassion they have shown to Mom.
We love you, sweet Grandma Lu.
