Margaret Dunford Reid passed away on July 25, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she and her husband of 70 years have lived since 2016. Prior to Colorado Springs, they lived in Los Alamos, NM for many years as well as several years in Redwood City, California.
Margaret was born on October 10, 1932, in Provo, Utah to George Osmond and Venna Dunford. She grew up in Idaho and Utah. She graduated from Payson High School in 1950. She attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah and graduated with an associate degree in 1952. While at Snow College she met her future husband, Don Reid. After Don completed his military obligation, they were married on June 9, 1954, in the Manti, Utah, Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Margaret was a dedicated homemaker during her 70 years of marriage. This allowed her to spend countless hours in church and community service. She was also a pianist and an expert knitter. For many years children and grandchildren received a beautiful, handknit sweater on special occasions from Grandma Reid. She served in many leadership and teaching positions in her Church over the years. After her husband’s retirement they were able to serve 3 couple missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served at the institute of religion at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; at the institute at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and in the Nauvoo Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois. They also served for several years as ordinance workers in the Church Temple in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She is survived by her husband Don W. Reid, a daughter Lisa Morgan (Lyle) of Cary North Carolina, a daughter Dana Belva (Jim) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and a son David of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Arlene Van Wagenen, Barbara Christiansen and Annie Thayne. She has 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy Bradley (Eddy) of Murray, Utah, three brothers Max, Gary and Ned Dunford and one sister Ruth Creer.
Memorial services for Margaret will be held in Colorado Springs at a later date. A viewing will be held at Magleby Mortuary in Manti, 195 W 100 N, Utah on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Internment will follow in the Manti City Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manit.
