Matthew Gary Moody

Matthew Gary Moody, 41, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Saturday, June 13, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Matt was born on March 2, 1985, in Richfield, Utah, to Gary and RaeLynn Moody. He was the youngest of their five children and thoroughly enjoyed that position. He was especially adored by his sister Michelle, who often took on the role of a second mother and protector. Some accused him of being spoiled, but Matt never claimed the title. He simply enjoyed life and all it had to offer.

At the age of 14, Matt earned his Eagle Scout rank by organizing and carrying out a quilt-making project. He presented the Sevier County Sheriff's Office with 12 quilts to be used by deputies when they were first to arrive at an accident scene, and someone needed comfort. His thoughtful project set an example that other Scouts later followed.

The quilt project reflected a quality that would define Matt throughout his life. He was thoughtful and selfless, often looking beyond himself to see what others might need. He had a tender heart and found satisfaction in helping people feel cared for, included, and valued. Family members could count on receiving an unexpected text from Matt simply checking in, asking how they were doing, or ending with a heartfelt "I love you." Whether through a meaningful act of service or a small gesture of kindness, Matt had a gift for reminding people that they mattered. Matt consistently found ways to lift others and brighten their day.

Matt enjoyed developing his many talents. He played soccer and clogged with the Green Valley Cloggers through his senior year of high school. He also performed in high school plays, taking the lead role in The Man Who Came to Dinner and delighting audiences as Linus in the production You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

For 20 years, Matt worked in the food service and hospitality industry in Cedar City, St. George, Rochester, New York, and Richfield. He was ambitious, hardworking, and genuinely cared about people. Matt made friends wherever he went. He liked to call people by name because, in his mind, they either were—or soon would be—his friends. This gift for connecting with others contributed greatly to his success in his chosen profession.

Matt had a deep love for family and cherished time spent with them. He always kept a candy jar nearby for his nieces and nephews when they stopped by to visit—and for anyone else with a sweet tooth. Perhaps it was a bit of a bribe, but he loved seeing their excitement and enjoyed every visit, making it well worth it.

Matt loved his Savior and cherished his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The joyful reunion he experienced with loved ones who had gone before him was surely a glorious one.

Matt is survived by his mother, RaeLynn White (Tom, deceased) of Richfield; his siblings, Michelle Moody of St. George, Jennifer (Garrett) Frei of St. George, Joel (deceased; Kerry) Moody of St. George, and Lyndsey (Kai) Neilson of Richfield. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Trisha (Tom) Langford of Eagle Mountain, Kim (Travis) Ricks of Clearfield, and Tom Jr. (deceased; Dena) White of California; nine nieces, three nephews, one energetic grand-niece, four step-nieces, and six step-nephews.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Gary Moody; his brother, Joel Moody; his stepfather, Tom White; and his stepbrother, Tom White Jr.

Matt’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jared West, the Severe County EMS, Zion’s Way Hospice and all their angels who kept Matt comfortable. God bless you all.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12:00 Noon in the Richfield 3rd Ward Chapel (985 S. 400 W). Viewings will be held on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Magleby Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and at the Ward Chapel on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti.
