Mona Lee Peterson, affectionately known as Moni, was born on April 15, 1932, in Richfield, Utah, and she passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, in St. George, Utah. Her life was filled with love to her family and community.
Moni had an impressive career, beginning as a telephone operator in Phoenix, Arizona, although for a brief period. She later found her true calling as a physical education teacher at the Indian Dormitory, where her dedication to her students fostered an environment of love and support. The bond she created with her colleagues and students transformed her workplace into a family-like atmosphere. Moni maintained connections with many of her former students, eagerly anticipating updates on their accomplishments and cherishing the relationships she built over the years.
A proud graduate of Southern Utah University, Moni earned her Bachelor's degree and poured her heart into every endeavor. Her vibrant personality drew people to her, and she was known for her kindness and willingness to help others. An avid fan of the Utah Jazz, Moni passionately followed the games, often cheering or yelling for her team. Her laughter and warm smile were a testament to her love of life.
Moni lived in a beautifully maintained red barn home, many in the community knew her because of that house. She made many cherished memories in this special place, where family and friends felt welcomed and loved in her home.
Throughout her life, Moni indulged her love for classic cars, meticulously caring for her beloved ‘29 Model T and ‘59 Thunderbird, which garnered numerous ribbons and trophies from car shows. She loved participating in local parades in Richfield and Salina, showcasing her cherished vehicles to the community.
As an accomplished dog groomer, Moni made many friendships during her career, with her love for dogs shining through her work. Sage, her last and cherished dog who passed away two years prior, held a special place in her heart, and his absence deeply affected her.
Moni’s dedication to her family was unwavering. She is survived by her nieces, Valorie Lynne Miller, Joan (Mike) Hadley, and Lisa Marie Roberson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn L Peterson and Ruth Brewer Peterson Miller; Bud Miller, Sherry Ruth Peterson Ewles, Courtney Ewles, Sally and Cecil Utley, Kirtley Blaine Ewles, and Kasey Bud Ewles.
Moni cherished the many adventures she shared with Sherry and Courtney, as they created countless memories together going to Mesquite, Branson, Missouri and Hawaii and many other adventures. She had a special bond with her nieces and nephews and their children, whom she adored, and showered with affection, always eager to spoil them. She made sure each child had a handmade pair of moccasins from her.
Her passion for bowling was remarkable, as she participated in many leagues over her lifetime. She played in the Senior Games in St George for many years. She proudly earned her 25-year ring after years of dedication to the sport. Moni also loved turquoise jewelry, she had quite the collection that she was very proud of.
Moni's legacy will live on by the love she gave and the huge impact she made in the lives of those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed but will forever live in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Richfield Cemetery. There will be a viewing prior to services from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Magleby Mortuary in Richfield.
