Noel Anthony Cowley, a kind and gentle soul, left this earthly life, one day shy of his 56th birthday. Noel was born on October 7th, 1969, to Ivan Oscar and Pearl Daniels Cowley. Six weeks after his birth, he was rushed to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City for emergency heart surgery. He was only given a 30% chance of survival.
He grew up in Venice, Utah, where he was a very active boy who kept his parents on the run. Noel loved to run the farm machinery and to help fix it. He was active in scouting, where he earned his Eagle Scout award. While in high school, Noel was a member of the Richfield FFA chapter. He had many farm mechanic projects and received the American Farmer Degree - the highest honor in the FFA at the national FFA convention in Kansas City, MO. He also received the national award for farm mechanics at that same convention. The highlight was taking tours of the Case Tractor and the John Deere factories.
Noel graduated from Richfield High School in May of 1988.
He married Kodi Lynn Hulet on November 19, 1988. They had a son, Taylor Noel, and a daughter, Katie Lynn. They lived in Venice, where Noel worked on the family farm for a few years. They later divorced.
In 1995, Noel moved his family to Saint George, where he worked for a construction company. After two years, the family moved to Las Vegas, during the housing boom, where there were many jobs in construction with a lot of equipment to repair. Eventually, Noel started his own business, Cowley Field Service, on September 11, 2001, the same day the Twin Towers fell. During this time, Noel would wake his kids up on Saturday morning around 6:00 to go to breakfast and then went on to work, cleaning, organizing, and servicing his mechanic trucks so they would be ready for Monday morning. Noel instilled this work ethic in his children that he grew up with on this family farm. His business became very successful until the housing crash of 2008, which halted construction and the need for heavy machinery mechanics. During Noel's time in Las Vegas, he made many lifelong friends. The family worked hard, but they also played hard. They enjoyed many camping trips and outdoor activities, especially riding dirt bikes.
Eventually, due to the economic downturn, Noel returned to Venice to rebuild his business and work for the local farmers and construction companies in the Sevier Valley. Noel's son, Taylor, returned from his mission in 2013 and moved to Venice to join his dad in rebuilding the company. They built a shop for Cowley Farm and Feed Lot, where they serviced their farm equipment and gained many other local customers and friends.
Noel renewed a friendship with a former classmate who had recently returned to live in Richfield. This friendship blossomed, and Noel married Becky Robinson in 2015, in the Manti Temple. They eventually purchased the family home and made it theirs. Together they enjoyed rides to Fish Lake, vacations to Lake Powell, visits to Katie, Enoch, and Elijah in Maryland, and trips to the great state of Alaska!
In 2016, Noel's heart issues required surgery. This was a hard time for him because of the long recovery period. He was not used to sitting around doing nothing; he wanted to be at the shop and in the thick of things. In 2021, Noel was diagnosed with cancer. This, too, was another long, hard battle. He fought with grace, dignity, and appreciation. Though Noel wanted to continue to fight and watch his grandchildren and posterity grow, his body was tired. He passed away on October 6, 2025, at the Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield with his family at his side.
Noel is survived by his wife, Becky Cowley; son, Taylor (Alejandra) Cowley; daughter, Katie (Enoch) Thomas; and grandchildren, Elijah, Eli, and Ethan. Siblings: Kristine (Brent) Carlile, Dawn (Blake) Camp, Rosalyn (Brent) Dalley, Bradford (Deanna) Cowley, Bart (Betty) Cowley.
In addition to his parents, Ivan and Pearl, he is preceded in death by an infant sister, Verlene.
