Nonna Noreen Kennedy Johnson
Marysvale, Utah
Nonna Kennedy Johnson, age 93, died peacefully of natural causes on August 4, 2025, in Monroe, Utah. Eight weeks after her husband Joel passed away, our precious Mother also chose to ride off into the sunset.
Nonna was definitely ready to join her husband, daughter Jolynne, and her parents, brother, and sisters, although her mortal family would have loved to have kept her with them. Nonna’s “Cycle of Life” was complete!
An incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with in a
positive way.
Born during the Great Depression on May 1, 1932, in Salina, Utah, to George and Georgia Dalton Kennedy, Nonna learned the value of hard work from her parents at an early age. She was raised in Marysvale, the oldest of 5 children: Marga, Kerry Dale, Kenda, and Kim. Nonna knew how to hunt, ride horses, dig for gold, skate on frozen rivers, and could outrace any boy in town! Some of her deer hunting stories are legendary.
On June 5, 1950, Nonna was sealed for time and eternity to the love of her life, Joel Clark Johnson, in the Manti, Utah, Temple.
Joel always thought Nonna was the most beautiful girl he had ever met. Together, they made their home in Marysvale where they raised five children: Randy and Jodi (Finlinson) Johnson of Marysvale; Alan and Helen (Adams) Johnson of Monroe; Layne and Nancy (Foote) Johnson of St. George; Jolynne (Johnson) (deceased), and Burke Nay of Monroe; and Bryant Lee and Ashley (Willits) Johnson of Monroe. Their family has grown to include 24 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren as a living testament to the love and legacy that Nonna leaves behind. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings throughout her life in the Marysvale Ward.
Nonna’s greatest love was her family, but she was also extremely passionate about the Tushar Mountains, as picnics every weekend with her parents, family, and friends were an important part of her life. She held a tender spot in her heart for dogs. Throughout her life, she never went without having “man’s best friend” as part of the family. Nonna found immense pleasure working in her yard and spent countless hours meticulously caring for her flowers and lawn. She loved looking for unique rocks in the mountains to add to her flower beds. Nonna was also an avid reader and accumulated a library of books that her family enjoys today. Nonna had an incredible talent for singing. She used her beautiful voice to sing in choirs and to share her favorite songs with family. Nonna was known for making the best spoon fudge, raisin cream pie, and dinner rolls anywhere! She loved to play cards, Rook, and a cold Coke or two was her favorite drink every day!
Nonna was a fierce competitor and lioness who never failed to protect and support her family with unconditional love. In her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s minds, she made every day the best ever and told stories better than anyone, anywhere. One of her famous “grandma quotes” was, “Do Everything While You’re Young!” Nonna’s home was warm, inviting, and she made everyone feel welcome. She loved to talk with people. Her devotion to her family was never in question. If you visited mom/grandma/great grandma, one of the last things she told you when you left was, “I love you.”
The void Nonna’s absence leaves will never be filled, but her family will see her bright, colorful light in each incredible sunset as her spirit will never leave their hearts. "Nonna will be her family’s guardian angel who will always look down upon them”! We love you Mom! Our memories of you will never leave our hearts.
