Stanford Peterson

d. June 4, 2024

Mayfield, Utah

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stanford Jay Peterson, who left us on June 4, 2024, at the age of 87, after a brief hospitalization due to an infection. Surrounded by loved ones, he passed away peacefully in Gunnison.
Stanford was born on October 26, 1936, in Mayfield, to Edgar Victor Peterson and Wanda May Bjerregaard. His life was a testament to duty, hard work, and dedication to family. He stepped up to run the family farm during his senior year of high school when his father fell ill.
On November 29, 1957, Stanford married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Anderson, in the Manti Temple. He delighted in recalling the day they met on Main Street in Ephraim. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, love, and service.
As a dairy farmer, Stanford was a man of practical know-how and skill, always ready to lend a hand with welding, repairs, construction, or getting an engine to turn over. His passion for woodworking was evident in the beautiful pieces he created for his loved ones and the toys he crafted for his grandchildren. Stanford was a farmer through and through, and he loved his antique tractors.
Stanford was a beloved member of his community. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served on the Mayfield Town Council and the Mayfield Water Board, and was an enthusiastic member of the Woodturners Club.
Stanford is survived by his children: Melinda (Doyle) Page, Mayfield; Melissa (Steven) Lund, Manti; Michelle (Tom) Bailey, Ephraim, (currently presiding over the Nebraska Omaha Mission); Melody Peterson, Mayfield; Monica (Mike) Lund, West Jordan; Maria (Bruce) Fuller, Mayfield; Marcy (Andy) Tanner, Salt Lake City; Mitzi (Martin) Gillen, Mesquite, NV; Jared (Kayde) Peterson, Mayfield; Jody (Ryan) Newman, Genola; and Megan (Jeremy) Vincent, Gunnison. He was a proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 37 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Devon Peterson, Delta; and Wanda Marie (John) Wilcox, Mayfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Charles Lynn Peterson.
Please join the family for a graveside service on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 12 Noon at the Mayfield Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Jeannie.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wade Anderson and the healthcare professionals at Gunnison Valley Hospital for their compassionate care. Special thanks also to Doug Bjerregaard for his unwavering friendship through thick and thin.
We are blessed to have had Stanford as the father of our family and as our friend. His legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on in our hearts.
