Steve Durand
Robbers Roost, Utah

Steve Joseph Durand passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on July 25, 2023 in Provo of complications due to cancer.
Steve was born December 6, 1955 in Newton, Australia to Stanley and Grace Evelyn Maurer Durand. He attended school in Australia. After graduating from high school, he moved to California where he joined the National Guard. Steve loved the outdoors. After completing his service, he worked on ranches in California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Northern Utah and finally found home in Southern Utah, Piute County, with the Gleave Family. This means the whole extended Gleave family. They all loved him.
In 2011 Steve really found home in Eastern Utah on Robbers Roost. The Gleave family planned on him taking care of cows short term out there, but instead he told them he was never leaving. Steve stuck to this and has been running their cows for the last 12 years with minimal visits into “Town”. Steve said that this was the closest he had been to Australia, and the life he loved, and that when he died, he was going to be buried there.
Steve was deaf and did not like crowds of people, but if he could get you one on one, you could not get away from him. He was a people person, contrary to his belief.  Once you got to know him, you couldn’t help but love him.
Steve was kind and gentle. He loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He was a great cow hand and could fix anything broken. He made friends with everyone he encountered down on Robbers Roost. It did not matter who you were or where you were from.
Steve is survived by his three nieces: Jessica, Cara, and Shannon, whom he loved unconditionally, as well as an abundance of other family and friends. Steve will be greatly missed by all.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Robbers Roost Ranch, east of Goblin Valley — instead of turning to go to Goblin Valley, turn east, stay right as the road forks twice. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
