Velvet Vee Myrup Nielson, 55,  passed away in her sleep on September 28, 2022 in Centerfield, Utah.  Velvet was born March 12, 1967 to Theldon and Penni Kump Myrup in Gunnison, Utah. She was their only child and the light of their lives.
Velvet attended Gunnison Valley High where she was a member of the G-Gettes and active in the drama department and the FFA. She graduated in 1985. While in high school, she met and married Jeffrey Piep. Together, they had three beautiful children. They later divorced. In 2009, Velvet married the love of her life, Lee Nielson.
Velvet loved her large blended family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life and she was always bragging about them. Being a grandma was her favorite thing in the world.
Throughout her life, Velvet was always taking care of others. She ran a daycare out of her home until she went to work as a CNA at the Mayfield Community Care Center. In 2003, Velvet made the decision to go back to school to become a counselor. She found a job that aligned with that path and she loved her work at YWEC in Ephraim with her whole heart. In 2011, Velvet was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to quit her job and allow others to take care of her. She beat cancer and was in remission for the last 9 years.
Velvet is survived by her husband, Lee Nielson, Centerfield; her father, Theldon Myrup,  Gunnison; her children: Nicholle (George) Eckersley, Ogden; Jaylynn (Brock) Johnson,  Redmond; and Justin (Kylie) Piep, Payson; her stepchildren: Leisa (Wayne) Connelly, Manti; Tera (Rick) Brown, Manti; Stacy (Roy) Carlisle, Manti; and Joe (Jayme) Nielson, Midvale; 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Velvet was preceded in death by her mother, Penni Myrup, and her grandparents.
