Verleen Jones
Sevier, Utah
Our sweet mother, grandmother, sister, great-grandmother, Verleen Jones Jones, passed away Saturday August 27, 2022 in her home, at the age of 82, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Verleen was born February 19, 1940 in St. George, Utah, to George H. and Lela Smith Jones, where she grew up with a house full of brothers and sisters. She was the oldest of ten siblings growing up in a small, simple home filled with love. She developed hard work ethics milking cows and bucking hay bales by hand while working on the family farm. She was considered a mother figure for some of her younger siblings. She was an amazing big sister to them all.
She attended school in St George and later graduated from South Cache High School after the family relocated to the Cache Valley area. She then worked as a nurse's aide in Las Vegas, Nevada and in Logan, Utah. On March 2, 1962 she married the love of her life and eternal sweetheart, William Bruce Jones, in the Logan Temple. They began their lives together and started a family of their own; they had 3 children and enjoyed 53 great years together before Bruce’s passing.
She always loved to be with Bruce and the family, camping, fishing, hunting, or going for a drive in the mountains. She always packed great picnics for the family and made outings into great adventures. Verleen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities including the Primary, Sunday School, and being a Scout leader for several years. Verleen loved being involved in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers; she enjoyed the connections and friendships that were created through her service as the chaplain and parliamentarian. She lived a life full of service to others.
Verleen was an amazing woman and will be missed by her family, friends, and so many others. She completed her mission on this earth with courage, honor, strength, and bravery. She lived a life of selfless service. She has now returned to her heavenly home where her husband anxiously awaited her return and a glorious reunion has taken place.
She is survived by her children: Tamera (Kevin) Williams, Michele (Steve) Monroe, and Michael (Kellie) Jones; 17 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Leila (Golden) Obray, Richard (Myrna) Jones, Celia (Barry) Monroe, Carol (Arlan) Dopp, Twila (Ray) Owens, Tom (Susan) Jones, Terry Lynn (Kay D) Monroe, and Alonzo (Brooke) Jones; in-laws: Trish Jones, Barbara Jones, Marlene (John) Wiser, David (Florence) Jones.
