With gratitude and peacefulness, the family of Vodell Kay Peterson announces the passing of their husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Vodell left this earthly life in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 7, 2025, surrounded by family who loved him.
Vodell was born on February 24, 1938, to Horace Levere and Ina Lapreal Peterson. He spent his childhood and youth growing up and having adventures in Elsinore, Utah. A few years after graduating from South Sevier High School, Vodell went on to marry his sweetheart, Leola Colleen Christensen, on September 19, 1959. She joined him as he was drafted and served in the Army at Ft Ord, California. After he was released from duty, they returned to the Salt Lake Valley, where they raised their family of four children. Vodell had a long time successful career as a mechanic for Salt Lake City, which allowed him to enjoy a long and full retirement, spending the last 25 or more years in Marysvale, Utah. He enjoyed mechanics and was often called upon by his sons to figure out problems with engines. He was an active and avid gardener, enjoying a garden and working in his yard, caring for the peacocks, rabbits, chickens, or whatever critter he was interested in at the time. He even had bee hives for a while.
Vodell enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren and could often be found enjoying a sunset and admiring “the Master Painter” at work. Memories of boating, fishing, and hunting with his children will be treasured by them all. Vodell was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Vodell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Colleen, and their four children, Elizabeth L. (Steven Jay) Dale of Tooele, Utah, JoAnn (Tad) Jolley of Payson, Utah, Dennis K. (Danielle) Peterson of Herriman, Utah, and Steven Allen (Terasa) Peterson of Cedar City, Utah. Among those who will honor his memory are a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vodell has one surviving sibling, a sister, Connie Miller. Vodell is preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers. Funeral Services will be held at the Marysvale LDS Chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, with a viewing to be held from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the funeral. Interment will be held at the Marysvale City Cemetery with military honors. Funeral Directors Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti
