Vonda Rae Madsen, born on February 28, 1939, in Grand Junction, Colorado, has passed away peacefully in her home in Centerfield on May 9, 2025. A cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Vonda lived a life dedicated to her family and her passion for nursing.

Vonda was a dedicated person and was very proud of her becoming a LPN and being able to take care of all those she served. She loved her profession and excelled at it.

Her dad owned race horses and she would Jockey for him winning many races. She was an animal lover and treated all of her cats just like her children. She had a tender and loving demeanor about her that attracted all to her.

Vonda was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Gerald Lloyde Madsen. Married on February 9, 1977, in Reno, Nevada, they were sealed in the temple on November 15, 2000; their bond was strong and filled with mutual admiration. Gerald preceded her in death on May 7, 2016, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and an enduring love.

Vonda was blessed with three children: Vickie Rae (Clayton) Despain of Gunnison, Bud (Melissa) Shumway of Centerfield, and Shane Shumway of Fillmore. She was immensely proud of her 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her warmth and encouragement. Her family's well-being and happiness were always at the forefront of her heart.

Vonda's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of hard work, family devotion, and a joyful spirit. Vonda's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward. Vonda was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gerald; her parents, Bill Hatch and Olive McCarrel; and her brother, Arlen Bill Hatch.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 16, at 1:00 pm at Elgin Cemetery in Green River.
